Memorial Bandstand at Walmer

November ceremonies are again in sight nationwide this week so this picture taken today of a pristine monument to our collective past will I am sure be welcome. I well remember when garnering interest for the building of a memorial bandstand at Deal that not everyone thought it a good idea. “Vandalised throughout the country, they are” was one comment. We pressed on and now thirty-two years later this remarkable structure remains in pride of place on Deal seafront passed and admired by every visitor to this historic town where the memory of music of the Royal Marines musicians trained here proudly still lives on.
