"The Last Hurrah!"

Royal Marines Buglers Association (Eastney).

The Ex Buglers Association met for the last time on Saturday 4th October 2003, at the Portsmouth Irish Society Club - Elm Grove.

Ex buglers in attendance:- Colin Bowden; Dave Bridgford; Maxwell Burridge; Len Chester; Ron Clements; Mick Daish; Dave Hillier; Bill Legg; Tony Mendoza; Podge Overbury; Dave Palmer; Ray Prince; Dave Raggett; Pat Robinson; Robin Rowe; Jim Sholl; Eric Stevens; Ron Stirzacker; Bob Tanner.

The demise of the association is mainly due to lack of interest by the new and more professional generation of buglers in the Band and Drums and age with respect to the older generation of W.W.2. The organizing and offices of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer is just too much for most of them to cope with.

Robin Rowe has for the past two years carried out the duties of secretary, treasurer and publisher of our bi-monthly publication "SOUND OFF" but now feels the responsibilities are just too much for one person, hence our "LAST HURRAH!"

Robin presented a statement of accounts and it was unanimously agreed at the meeting to purchase 4 silver plated bugles for the local Royal Marines Cadet Band, as a donation from the Royal Marines Buglers Association (Eastney), suitably engraved in memory of all the R.M. buglers killed in action in the wars. Robin will let us know more on this when he has firm prices.

A "Thank You" card signed by all in attendance and a gift was presented to Robin in appreciation of all the work he had done over the past ten years. The card was also signed in absentia for Frank Slim - Connersville U.S.A.; Pete Young - Spain; Ted Jackson - California U.S.A.; Jim Hendrickson - Brampton Canada; and Reg Pendered - Plymouth, who all sent their regards to Robin and thanked him for his work. Unfortunately due to distance or health these members were not able to be in attendance this year.
