It
will be of interest to all our colleagues that former WO1 (Corps Bandmaster)
Graham Harvey has been awarded a significant tribute from the Worshipful
Company of Musicians in London.
Having been recommended by the WCM Court of Assistants his name has been
added to the Company's 'Roll of Honour' in recognition of his contribution
to music generally, and to young players in particular, following his
retirement from the Band Service. The Worshipful Master of the Company
directed me, as a Liverymen of the Company, to present Graham with an
parchment scroll to commemorate this achievement. The document was forwarded
to me and I was able to pass it to him last evening in front of a capacity
audience in Dover Town Hall where Graham's band was giving its inaugural
public concert since rebranding itself as:
As its Musical Director he was given a richly deserved standing ovation
from everyone present and, to my knowledge, becomes uniquely the only
former Royal Marines musician to have his name included in the WCM's 'Roll
of Honour'. The Company was inaugurated in the year 1500 and has featured
prominently within the City of London since that date. As I extend my
personal congratulations to him I am left wondering what further steps
this gentle man may be capable of taking in the world of music!
Yours ever,
Graham
