Dear Richard,

Yesterday was Rod Farrell's funeral. The church was packed for a musical tribute to him and many kind words spoken of a real gentleman.

Attached is a cutting from the local paper which I hope can be used as an obituary. It was well attended by ex-bandsmen and two serving members.

Dear Richard,

Following the funeral of Rod Farrell, Edwina his wife has asked me to write in and thank all the people who sent cards, letters and all those who rang. She said she was overwhelmed by all the messages and her and the three boys were very grateful that so many people had got in touch.

I had omitted before that he had received a letter from the palace saying how the Queen remembered with fondness his piano playing whilst aboard the Royal Yacht.
