It is with the greatest sadness that I report the death of Bert (John)
Kingston who will be remembered as a very fine violin and clarinet player
with the Royal Marines Band at Eastney. He was a true Christian gentleman
whose kindness to all those he came into contact with was legendary.
A superb example of honest endeavour he trained at Deal in the early
1950's and was one of the first to be sent to the Portsmouth Divisional
Band at the time of the Amalgamation where he was welcomed as more than
worthy to wear their distinctive cap-badge. An honour he had truly earned
in those difficult times and one that he carried with pride throughout
his life now sadly ended by the same Altzheimer's disease that took
his brother, a former RM Bugler, only a year or so before.
Funeral 1015 on Friday 15th July 2005 Portchester Crematorium,
Portsmouth.
Yours sincerely,
Graham
Hoskins
